Mindfulness for Beginners

3-Week Online Course

In this 3-week course, we will explore mindfulness both conceptually and experientially: What it is...How to do it...and Why it’s important. We will learn, practice, and discuss together mindfulness and its related concepts.

While there is a lot we plan to “DO,” consider this more an opportunity to just “BE,” temporarily stepping away from the daily stream of responsibilities and concerns.

Mindfulness teaches us a skillful way to relate to our moment-to-moment experience, which empowers us to break down our negative habitual patterns. This skillfulness is grounded in moment-to-moment, nonjudgmental awareness.

Format:

- weekly video conferences group classes (via Zoom software)

- assigned home practice of various mindfulness practices and selected readings

- private Facebook group for ease of communication, and support from other members

Key Concepts and Understandings (un)covered:

- What mindfulness is and what it isn't

- What meditation is, and what it isn't

- How training in present moment awareness can benefit our mental & physical health
- How mindfulness serves as wise response to stress

The difference between formal and informal mindfulness practices

- How mindfulness trains the mind in awareness of how things really are - our perceptions vs. our misperceptions

- How to apply mindfulness into your everyday life

Mindfulness for Beginners

3-Week Online Course

Do you often feel stressed or anxious? Do you feel pulled around by the speediness of a "typical" day? Does your mind seem to always be busy with excessive thinking? Yet all your "old tricks" for taking care of yourself don't seem to be...doing the trick?

Recent scientific research supports the claim that mindfulness improves our resilience to stress, anxiety, worry, and other difficult mental states.

Further, mindfulness teaches us a skillful way to slow down and experience our life moment-by-moment, clearly, and without judgment. Mindfulness is intertwined with curiosity, clarity, and kindness, so it is a practice of self-care. It's from this presence true change occurs
