This “Day of Mindfulness” is a 7-hour immersive experience into mindfulness practice. It is a key component of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction curriculum, where experience is emphasized over intellect or analysis.
What to Expect
Throughout the day, R.J. will be guiding participants through a series of different practices/exercises (see schedule below). The basic view of the day is to prioritize a gentle awareness of our bodies and hearts, with as little judgment, and as much kindness as is accessible. It is about meeting ourselves exactly where we are and taking a break from the constant doing that runs so much of our waking hours.
Many have found that by engaging in a "Day of Mindfulness," the busyness of the mind naturally slows and calms down. From this stability of attention, we are able to see our own minds and hearts with more clarity and less self-criticism. This is a strong basis for igniting change from unhealthy habits to wholesome ones. The practices encourage turning toward our present-moment experience, a rich opportunity to accept ourselves just as we are.
Context, place, and community are important for this kind of deep work. Although most of the day will be in silence, you will have opportunities at the beginning and the end of the day to get to know your fellow meditators and reflect upon the day. Despite the silence, many have reported feeling well supported by the group through their presence and engagement with the day’s schedule.
Teaching/guidance from a qualified teacher, a supportive community of fellow meditators, and one’s own genuine effort with the practices have shown to be a reliable recipe for promoting well-being, physical and mental health, self-understanding, and compassion.
Who is it For?
